Message From Principal Tim McCorkle

Dear Albuquerque High School Community,

As you may know by now, our letter grade from the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) has decreased this year.  The NMPED issued this penalty because we did not meet the requirement of administering state standardized tests to 95% of our students.  We had 92% participation last school year and look to make every effort to improve this coming school year.

It pains me to see Albuquerque High School labeled this way.  I love this school and its community.  The NMPED grade we received does not accurately reflect the hard work, dedication, and tremendous success of our staff and students.  Listed below are just a few of the many recent accomplishments and recognitions we have earned.

The Embassy of Spain in the United States has recognized AHS as the top high school in the United States for Bilingual Spanish Education.

US News and World Report ranked AHS the high school with the highest level of College Readiness in APS.

Within the last three years, US News and World Report ranked AHS in the top 5 high schools in New Mexico and in the top 2% of high schools in the United States.

Albuquerque High School has one of the highest pass rates in Albuquerque Public Schools for AP Spanish Language, AP Calculus AB, and AP Calculus BC.

Last year, we had more Ivy League college acceptances than any other APS high school.

I want to personally thank my staff and students for their hard work. This grade does not reflect who we are as a school and community. Let's continue to move forward and continue to make Albuquerque High School the school we know we truly are.

Tim McCorkle

AHS Principal
